SHERRI HAY
WORLDS A SOUND FOR SITTERS TO SIT IN
Opening Reception Saturday September 8th, 2pm – 6pm
Exhibition runs: September 8th — September 29th
Christopher Cutts Gallery, 21 Morrow Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6R 2H9
The Christopher Cutts Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new work by Sherri Hay.
This is Hay’s second, one-person show at the gallery. The exhibition incorporates both the north and south galleries.
In the south gallery Hay has charged the space with a site-specific installation. Attached from the
gallery ceiling in a grid are threads anchored with “petite crosses” which in turn are suspended in an undulating topographical manner. The gallery is imbued with an inverted voluminous landscape.
This environment is alive, moving rhythmically in the breeze like leaves in the wind.
In the north gallery there are a number of scaled down mini environments not unlike the
installation. They are contained in dioramic boxes, which one views as if you are looking into a specific self-directed environment. These works are extensions of Hay’s earlier figure based three-dimensional watercolours. Nevertheless they point more towards an abstracted fantastical space than a literal one.
