Christopher Cutts Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings, collages and prints from the 1950s from the estate of Harold Town.
This exhibition, which is accompanied with a catalogue that reproduces 26 canvases, 2 collages and 13 single autographic prints (SAP); with an essay by Gerta Moray, survey’s the 1950s. This is the time that Town was a member of Painter’s 11, the pioneering group of Toronto painters that showed collectively from 1954 – 1960.
A prodigious talent, this collection of work gives one a unique opportunity to view Town’s ingenuity and deft touch on a variety of medium. Town in the 1950s was at the height of his artistic virility, like an elite athlete in his prime. He handled the medium of printmaking, painting and collage with confidence and unabashed freedom. Executing some of the finest and most innovative work of that epoch.
