DANA HOLST: Girls! Girls! Girls!

Christopher Cutts Gallery is delighted to announce its first solo exhibition by Edmonton based painter Dana Holst. Holst graduated from the University of Waterloo with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1995. Since graduating she has had 17 solo exhibitions. In 2015/16 she had a one person show at the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton.
Holst has two distinct bodies of works. Her oil paintings which are polychromatic and meticulously painted and her encaustic works on paper, which are black and white and expressively painterly. Both are figure based.
This show, titled Girls! Girls! Girls! is particularly relevant in today’s shifting societal paradigm. Nevertheless, the ideas of marginalization and systemic oppression of her female subject matter has been an important component in Holst’s painting practice for many years.
