Christopher Cutts Gallery is delighted to announce its fourth one-man exhibition by legendary Toronto painter Gordon Rayner.
Our first solo show was back in 2009 where we featured a new body of work inspired by Rayner’s long-time association with the Magnetawan River and the landscape around it. He first visited the region as a young boy of eight to fish with his parents on holiday. Then later as a young adult, he would spend summers there sketching and painting at Charlie Clifton’s hunting cabin. He continued his sojourns in Magnetawan throughout his life, referring to it in an artist statement for his retrospective at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in 1978: “Luckily, this Magnetawan paradise is still available to me and each spring I disappear into it, wanting to be swallowed up by its dense greenery and crashing rapids, to feel the look of it again.”
The works on display date from 1988 to 1991 and are inspired by his beloved Magnetawan. They are major grand works often depicting the majesty of the great white heron and its bountiful abode.
The exhibition runs from October 20th – November 17th, 2018.
