Christy Langer

Christy Langer is a Canadian interdisciplinary artist currently living and working in Berlin, Germany. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Ontario College of Art and Design (now OCAD University) (2004). Langer has been awarded numerous grants from both the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council, as well as a number of awards from German arts institutions, most recently the Hošek Contemporary Prize in 2024. Her work has been exhibited at galleries such as Christopher Cutts and the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Hošek Contemporary and Sur La Montagne in Berlin, and many others. Langer’s work has been represented at many international art fairs including Art Chicago, SCOPE Miami, and SCOPE Basel.

Christy Langer’s practice combines elements of sculptural installation, sound, print, and animation. Her work explores the intersection of experience, remembrance, and the natural environment, and she seeks to document memories that come out of lived experiences. Working in multiple dimensions to engage the full range of senses, her body of work mediates the transition from tactile to visceral exchange with the viewer. Langer also finds herself influenced by her background in film and animation, drawing inspiration from the process of making, and finding stimulation through new materials and the possibilities they unlock.
