Michel Goulet

Based in Montreal, Michel Goulet is an acclaimed Quebecois artist, sculptor, and educator. Active since 1977, he has been recognized both within and outside of Canada. Goulet has created dozens of public artworks, designed sets for theater, and shown his sculptures across the globe when he represented Canada at the 1988 Venice Biennale. He was the recipient of multiple awards, including the Governor General Award in 2008, a member of the Order of Canada in 2012, and a Commander of Order of Montreal in 2020. Through his artwork, he seeks to connect new people and engage them through disconcerting or amusing artwork. He hopes that by introducing these figures to each other, his artwork can invoke new dialogue between them.

Goulet works with a variety of materials for his artwork. From using elements like PVC, polymer and cardboard, to everyday items like pins, umbrellas, collection boxes and Lego blocks in his pieces, he re-interprets their original context. The artist has been exhibiting with Christopher Cutts for several decades, showcasing his works since 1988. His last solo show with the gallery was “(In) Common Recent Works” shown from March to April 2023 where he created a series of sculptures using mundane day-to-day objects and reinvigorated them with new dynamic imagery.
