Opening Reception Thursday October 11th, 6pm – 9pm
Exhibition runs: October 11th — November 3rd , 2012
Christopher Cutts Gallery, 21 Morrow Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6R 2H9

The Christopher Cutts Gallery is pleased to present DIMINISHING a new body of work by Toronto artist Christy Langer. This is Langer’s second solo show at the Gallery.

Langer’s practice is inspired by her interest in the embellishment that often occurs during the marriage of gradual ingestion and manipulation of reference. Utilizing the relationship between material, light, shadow, and form.

Diminishing is a body of work illustrating the base formulas of sculpture to produce these reconstructive models; the accumulation, deterioration and transition of singular materials to create form in space. The repetitive mass of the singular pattern suspended in space creates a secondary form overcoming the first; a carving transitions from an object into agents of the image that occurs by the interruption of it’s form, light and the ground behind it; uncanny portraits exist through the strategic labour of insertion, thousands of individual strands reconstruct embellished models in the style of animalier.
