Christopher Cutts Gallery is delighted to present its sixth solo exhibition by John MacGregor titled
“Reflections on Time”.

John MacGregor was born in Dorking, England in 1944, at the height of World War II. He
immigrated to Canada with his mother after the War in 1947.

He has been an important fixture on the Canadian Art Scene since the mid 1960’s. Exhibiting in
1965 at the Jack Pollock Gallery and then in 1966 with the legendary Isaacs Gallery who
represented MacGregor from then until 1987, hosting eleven solo exhibitions. The Christopher
Cutts Gallery began exhibiting MacGregor in 1988 and to date has included him in numerous group
exhibitions and six solo shows, including the present exhibition titled “Reflections on Time”.

As the title suggests, this presentation continues his fascination with the concepts of time. “What
it might be, how it is perceived, how it is represented and what it symbolizes.” (John MacGregor,
1996)

MacGregor stated that, “While the 13th century development of this notion of time, ëmetric timeí,
has also become one of the cornerstones of Western civilization. It has also been instrumental in
alienating humans from themselves and each other. Without the metric time concept, science,
industry and technology could not have developed. However, our sense of time as it relates to the
environment and our biology has been suppressed in the process. I believe it has resulted in a
human experience that is often skewed away from the essences of being human.”

In a recent conversation, MacGregor stated that, “the last frontier, according to Captain Kirk of
the celebrated Star Ship Enterprise, is space but in fact it is time.” They are of course
symbiotically interconnected.
