Canadian painter Rae Johonson has produced a remarkable body of work, from disturbing images of embracing lovers, to haunting bar scenes, to vistas of the Canadian shield. She began her career in the late 1970s when Toronto was rapidly becoming a major artistic centre. She played a pivotal role in this story as a founder of the collective ChromaZone which championed a return to figurative painting.
